To know is split into two words in Danish: At vide (noget om) = (to be informed about) og at kende (til) = (to be familiar with):
Hvor meget ved du om New York? = (How much do you know about New York?)
Hvor godt kender du New York? = (How well do you know New York?)
But besides from this semantic difference, there is a difference in grammatical structure - the respective objects. The object for at vide is either a subordinate clause, the pronoun det (that) refering to a phrase - or a pronoun measuring extent: noget (something/anything), meget (much), intet/ingenting (nothing). The object for at kende is a pronoun or a noun - never a phrase.
Ved du, hvor Peter bor? (Do you know where Peter lives?)
Ved du noget om alkohol? (Do you know anything about alcohol?)
Kender du vejen hjem til Peter? (Do you know the way to Peter's ?)
Kender du noget til at destillere? (Do you have any experience in distillery)
